About
the start
the birth of a planet
Planet Wu was pitched to Cal Wu by an upstart Geek Network to be an audio podcast. After a short time of mulling it over, Wu accepts and agree to start the podcast. After recording the 1st episode Cal Wu felt like the show was missing a few things: recording quality, structure, and most importantly a co-host. Wu told the network head, in order for this to work give me the reigns in completely totality and I'll fix these problems. Cal Wu has experience with audio editing from music, podcast experience from his younger years, and a friend that loved anime as much as he does. He reached out to his boy Hatsuma. Hatsuma agreed and the duo became a staple and consistent source of content for the Network.
Planet Wu as an audio podcast began to gain traction by interviewing cosplayers, paneling at cons, and through joining different Nerd communities. Planet Wu has been featured at DreamCon, Youmacon, Sabacon, Ramen Con, Dokidokon, and more. The panel that was ran was known as Anime Jeopardy, but has been rebranded as Throne of Nerds. Throne of Nerds pits Nerds against each other to see who has the most anime knoweldge in a variety of categories, across anime of all genres and generations. Planet Wu has transitioned into a video podcast and will continue to grow as a brand and become a staple with in the nerd community.
